Although a home had been sorted for Banin, a sudden serious illness in the family prevented them from following through with the adoption.
Banín, which is a term of endearment which means "little
woman" in Irish, might be the wrong name for her, though I am not sure how
one would say "little madam"!
Banín is almost 2 yrs old and is a very pretty and charming little devil. She
arrived here to the Orchard Greyhound Sanctuary from another rescue in early
January, who felt she would not thrive with them. Extremely stressed, and
frightened of everything and everyone, she did not want to be touched, leashed,
looked at, handled, or walk through door ways. "Oh boy" I thought,
"this is going to take a good 6 months......" She would press herself
up against the wall, cringe, and not look at me when I needed to get a leash on
her. "It's going to be a long haul......"
Not so! Banín is coming along very quickly now, no doubt influenced by the rest
of the monkies here, who seem to have told her to "get over it" and
start enjoying life. At present she is ready to go to an experienced
home....though she does seem to like young people, so children are not a bad
idea, but it would have to be children who would "match up" with Miss
Troublemaker.
Miss Troublemaker loves to steal things from the table - car keys, wallets,
mobile phones, vitamins jars, tea towels, the post, money, anything! She dashes
off with them to one of her stash areas on the property and thinks she is a very
clever girl. In spite of such antics, she is otherwise a very good girl, and is
housebroken, knows some basic household manners as well as her name, is great on
the leash and in the car, and gets along with the other dogs here. She would
tend to play too rough for small dogs, unless the small dog was a feisty terrier
who would teach her the boundaries! Banín is also spayed, vaxed, wormed, and
microchipped.
